On Monday Stella McCartney and Stan Smith celebrate the launch of Stella #stansmith, the first vegan leather edition of the iconic adidas Stan Smith. The launch at the recently opened 23 Old Bond Street Stella McCartney store during London Fashion Week, follows in the designer’s long-term collaboration with adidas.
Leather-free and suitable for vegans without sacrificing on style the Stella #stansmith is given a Stella twist. Reflecting Stella’s signature details, the sneaker features stars in embossed stripes replacing the signature adidas three stripes, while her logo features on burgundy and blue stripe bands at the heel. Staying true to the original design Stan Smith’s face remains printed on the tongue of the right shoe while Stella’s portrait and signature adorn the left foot. Stella #stansmith is available in both men’s and women’s sizes at Stella McCartney stores worldwide, online at www.stellamccartney.com and from select retail partners at a price of £235.
The designer, alongside legendary tennis player, Stan Smith, signed pairs of the vegan sneakers for guests including Madonna, Riz Ahmed, Ellie Goulding, Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Tigerlily Taylor, Alasdhair Willis, Radhika Jones, Imran Amed, Mary Charteris, Keith Lemon and many more.
The Stella #stansmith joins the growing Stella McCartney cruelty free sneaker range which now includes; the Loop, a new innovative and sustainable sneaker with specially designed hooks instead of glue, and the Eclypse, the brand’s first fashion trainer characterised by a sculptural and pumped-up shape.
Tonight’s event was the highlight of Stella McCartney’s recent sneaker category focused campaign, #StellaSneakerWeek which includes activations in-store and social media. As part of the celebration, Stella McCartney commissioned 6 artists to customise 23 limited edition vegan sneakers including the Loop and the Eclypse styles. The sneakers will be available exclusively at 23 Old Bond Street from the 17th of September and proceeds from the sales will be benefit charities chosen by each artist.
Commissioned artists and their beneficiary charities:
London Embroidery Studio to benefit the Terrence Higgins Trust
Swifty to benefit P.S ARTS
El Cappy to benefit ASPCA
Ben Smith to benefit Mario Lemieux Foundation
Graffiti Kings London to benefit DKMS
MattB Customs to benefit The Christie NHS Foundation
In keeping with the brand’s continued efforts to support a circular economy, Stella McCartney partnered with Refinery 29 to encourage guests to recycle their old Adidas Stan Smiths in return for 10% off a pair of the new vegan leather Stella #stansmith – a specially designed box has been installed to drop the old Stan Smiths (offer available in-store until 23rd September)
‘The Loop Lab’ is a pop up exhibition within 23 Old Bond Street that allows viewers to discover the technical construction and innovation of the new sustainable sneaker. Loop styles retail from £485, and Eclypse styles from £455 at Stella McCartney stores worldwide, online at www.stellamccartney.com and from select stockists.
