Lucy Watson, a 15yr old schoolgirl from Clane, Co Kildare is heading to London hoping to fulfill her dreams in modelling.
Last October Lucy attended an audition/interview with the Top Model UK panel. Impressing them, she was one of the finalists chosen on the day to walk in a fashion showcase in the London Hilton Metropole on the 1st of April.
Top Model UK is a prestigious competition in its 9th year, which prides itself on finding new and aspiring models. All of the prizes are focused on the fashion and modelling industry, with many previous finalists going on to walk at London Fashion Week, and/or be signed by reputable agencies both home and abroad.
Lucy is walking in the commercial category, despite having excellent runway technique , as she is only 5ft5! The model industry generally prefer taller models for runway though there are exceptions- Kate Moss at 5ft7 and Devon Aoki at 5ft 5!
There are other categories such as editorial, men, over 25 and worldwide ,with models from as far away as Australia and India taking part in the competition.
There are 3 walks for each competitor, 2 dressed by invited designers and one self styled lingerie, swimwear, and the judging panel on the night is made up of industry experts.
Among the many awards on the night is a public vote prize.
Each competitor raises funds for Top Model UK charity partner Children with Cancer UK , 100% of the monies raised go towards the charity and people can vote for Lucy on virginmoneygiving.uk/LucyKathleenWatson
This is not Lucys first time in a modelling competition. In 2014 and 2015 she competed at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. After a lot of fundraising a team of talented teens and young adults competed against over 50 teams from all over the world in vocal, acting, dance and modelling.
Lucy on both years made it to the grand final showcase with casual and formal modelling and returned home with medals .
While in Los Angeles ,she also took part in boot camps with representatives from LA models and the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts.
Lucy has always loved singing and dancing and being on stage from an early age . She has attended various stage schools, the most recent being Talented Kids based in Kilcullen and Clondalkin. The support and encouragement that she received from Maureen Ward who runs the agency helped Lucy decide that modelling was what she wanted to do!
Lucy will be back and forth to London for coaching and fittings over the few months ,all the while studying for her Junior Certificate. It will be a very exciting time for her , and no matter what happens in the competition, she fully intends to enjoy every minute of it ,and use everything she learns to help make her dream of becoming a model a reality.
