DIT Fashion Show 2016
Generation S for Style
From its humble begins in 2003 in the Excise Bar Dublin, students of the DIT Fashion Society could not have predicted the huge success this annual event would turn out to be. 2016 was no different with this year’s theme My Metropolis – The Story of a City in aid of the Jack & Jill Foundation. Team Ondine decided to check out the talent for this year with exclusive backstage access capturing all the excitement from the 40 models who partook in the show.
With just over 800 people in the crowd, the DIT Fashion Show was broken into two parts with the initial showcasing some High-Street labels such as Tola Vintage, Boohoo.com & Vero Moda to name a few while the second part was the all important Student Design Competition. Nine hopeful contenders had their designs put out on the spotlight for everyone to admire and see what Generation S has to offer; Aurelie Yolande, Cija Lamb, Clodagh Knight, Eamonn McGill, Julia Rainey, Katie Wickstone, Lisa Dooley, Roisin Fagan & Sarah Murphy. Each designer expressed what metropolis means to them through their unique designs. One design in particular, by Cija Lamb, was vey avant-garde. An elaborate blend of silk organza and silk her dress design took inspiration from the Nautilus shell and the enigmatic Fibonacci Spiral while the polygon shoulder pieces were inspired by the matrix & Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. Cija was voted by the judges as best design.
The talented DJ Mo Kelly provided music for the night while on the panel of judges was Brendan Courtney, Umit Kutluk, Maria Fusco & Bairbre Power. Some of the nights sponsors were Dublin Town (www.dublintown.ie); Spin 1038 (www.spin1038.com); House of Colour (www.houseofcolour.ie) & Make Up Forever (www.makeupforever.ie)
While there were many great people involved in organising the DIT Fashion Show we’d like to give a particular thank you to Sophie Martin for allowing us here at Team Ondine to cover the night and we look forward to working with the DIT crew in the near future.
