Limericks ambassador for Cycle Against Suicide encourages the people of Limerick to get involved in the Cycle.

Over 7000 cyclists are expected to take part in this year’s Cycle Against Suicide around the island of Ireland. The Cycle, beginning and ending in Dublin this Sunday 24th April, will travel over 1,100km through a number of towns and villages around the country in 14 days. During the Cycle, informative events will be hosted in schools and other locations along the route with speakers ranging from celebrities to mental health professionals.

Over 800 people die by suicide in Ireland each year. That is 800 families and communities devastated; 800 lives cut short. Cycle Against Suicide aims to affect change by beginning a conversation about mental health; spreading the message that ‘It’s OK not to feel ok; and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help’ into schools, businesses and communities throughout the island of Ireland.

Ambassadors have an important role to play in promoting the message of the Cycle. Limericks beauty queen former Miss Bikini Ireland Judy Fitzgerald has gone above and beyond to promote the Cycle in her home county of Limerick. As the Limerick Ambassador she has been not only encouraging people to take part in or volunteer with the Cycle, but will also takepart in a Sky Dive for the Cycle Against Suicide. This is Judy’s third year working with cycle against suicide and believes it is a very worthy cause. The cycle is also a great way to keep fit and to meet new people.

Director of Cycle Against Suicide Jim Breen said “Ambassadors have always played an important role in the Cycle Against movement helping to promote our message ‘It’s ok not to feel Okay’ and to encourage people of all ages to ask for help. We’re delighted to be working closely with Judy in getting the message to the Limerick area and beyond.”
