2016 IRISH BLOGGERS CHOICE AWARDS – DIGITAL AGE PIONEERS

2016 IRISH BLOGGERS CHOICE AWARDS

DIGITAL AGE PIONEERS

For some, it’s a hobby of pure passion perhaps even an obsession; a way of sharing with the whole world their world. For others, it’s a way of life, a full time career which forms the foundation to everything they do in life. In either case, this unequivocally unique breed of individual, the blogger, navigates the dense digital landscape with a keen and sharp eye for their niche. From food to parenting, beauty and style, each blogger takes their niche and infuses their personal identity & essence into their written masterpieces with skill & panache. So, despite the limited number of topics to discuss, there is an unlimited amount of perspectives available, no individual thinks in the same manner. Consequently, this creates a rich and complex social fabric where each blogger leaves their mark on this world. These are the digital age pioneers who help drive social awareness and change; they are the ingredients of history.

The Irish Bloggers Conference and Irish Bloggers Association was established in 2014 & 2015 respectively by Fiona Reid, founder and director of cooleventsireland.com, to provide a forum where current and aspiring bloggers in Ireland can exchange ideas and meet face to face with fellow bloggers. This year, 2016, was the first time the Bloggers Choice Awards was held. The aim of this awards ceremony is simple, to bestow recognition of the talent and creativity displayed among the Irish blogging community. There were many applications from all across the country however only a select few made the nominations list of around 300 plus; ultimately only a few awards were given out in different categories.

Team Ondine had the pleasure of attending the night which was hosted at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Dublin. It was a solid turn out with an à la James Bond dress code and an opulent atmosphere filled with smiles and laughter as the hopeful pioneers and their invitees enjoyed dinner. Singer Ken Kirwan serenaded the night with smooth Sinatraesque vocals (franklybuble.com) while MC for the night was James Tuohy and Alison Canavan (who later turned out to be one of the awards winners). Sponsors of the night included Coolevents, Wet’n’Wild, Goss, IMAGE, Freddy Button, the Irish Academy of Public Relations (Director Ellen Gunning) who gave away a comprehensive PR course worth over €1000 to one lucky person in the audience in a “most-creative- hashtag-of- the-night” mini competition.

Each of the pioneers walked away with a quality framed certificate to mark their outstanding achievement while the night concluded with all the winners on stage for a group photo. Here at Ondine we had the chance to talk to a few of the bloggers during the night. We asked them various questions about themselves and their blogs; a common theme emerged. Each blogger was moved by something that inspired them, something in their world which they had a passion for and felt compelled to share with the masses; the Internet has made it possible for these artists in their own right to do so.

As Ondine Magazine Editor-in-Chief, it’s my responsibility to coordinate team Ondine’s creative efforts. Final say in the publication of any article, both in print and web, falls with me. It’s not an easy job, but someone has to do it! I take great pride in working with such a talented team; a lot of work goes into finding content which is not only interesting and engaging, but also beautiful. During my spare time I like to work on various other photographic projects which I take great pride in. I’ve been shooting for more than 10 years now. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to our contacts department and we’ll get back to you as soon as humanly possible.
