This shoot was inspired by the issue of domestic violence which has touched the lives of both the model and the photographer.
Many people tend to ask why a person didn’t just leave, but it isn’t as simple as that. Not all violence is physical and it takes many forms from emotional to financial abuse.
Abuse is not gender specific, it can affect both men and women. The statistics on it vary as most goes unreported but 1 in 4 women will experience it in their life as will 1 in 6 men.
On average 2 women are murdered each week in the UK, 30 men are murdered by their partners each year. The PSNI respond every 23 minutes to a domestic violence call out.
This is an epidemic problem within our society and most goes hidden or unspoken and yet It accounts for 1/5 of violent crime in Northern Ireland.
Together we wanted to break that silence, and shine a light on the issue showing the physical manifestation of the chains that bind people into harmful and potentially lethal relationships.
